Ruth, Jordan, Gretzky, Nicklaus, Rice, VanDam, Pele, Chestnut. One name and you immediately know who these greats are. They can win any day, and when they are at their best, they can truly dominate. Add another name to this list… Damon.
On a weekend with such promise – blue skies and temps barely above 80 – anglers were looking forward to the bounty the Chowan area offered. Alas it was not to be for most, as a high pressure system made catching difficult for most. With 23 anglers, only 6 limits were weighed in over the 2 day tourney, and only 3 anglers brought 9 or more keepers to the scales. Most of those fish weren’t all that impressive…. unless you were Damon.
Damon swept the weekend in dominant fashion with 31.26 lbs in 2 days, besting 2nd place by nearly 12 pounds. Though his wins were by .5 and 2 lbs over 2nd each day, he beat 3rd place by nearly 7 lbs each day. Nobody else could find or catch fish like Damon. And you can’t spell Dominate without Damon.
Saturday Damon brought in 15.06 lbs and just missed big fish.
Don had a solid day with 14.61 lbs and the big fish at 5.14 lbs.
Here comes the sweep… Damon again with 16.20 lbs AND the big fish at 6.7 lbs. Looks like an 8 lber in the Spring.
Guest John grabbed 2nd place Sunday with a solid bag weighing 14.45 lbs.
All told the anglers caught 91 fish averaging 2.24 lbs. Not bad given the conditions.
Next up we head to Gaston. Bring it on!
