As is the custom our club went down to Edenton this past weekend to try our hand at the Chowan and other tributaries in the area. As a trailer tournament anglers are welcome to put in anywhere, but all must arrive at the 17 bridge boat ramp by weigh in time. We had yet another GREAT turnout, with 15 anglers fishing both days. This tournament is one that sets us apart from many other clubs, as most of us head down a day or 2 early to practice and get in some extra camaraderie time. Events like this leave us closer to a brotherhood than a club.
As expected it was hot for this tournament. Normally we go in September, but somehow found ourselves down there a month earlier than normal. Undaunted we all set out to find our limits. In the end few were able to get what they aimed for. As usual though, one suspect found his bag. Greg won day 1 with a 14.21 lb sack, anchored by the day’s big fish of 5.98
Damon just missed out landing a bag of 13.99, good enough for 2nd place.
With 15 anglers we were able to pay a 3rd spot, which Blaine was happy to snag with his 10.44 sack.
Day 1 results (note this is a 2 day tournament. Money is paid out each day, but club points are awarded for the complete portfolio from the weekend)
Day 2 looked to bring more of the same results until a heavy storm moved through. Some anglers left as normal, while some waited it out. Unfortunately day 1 had exhausted a few anglers more than others, with some boats not leaving the ramp until 10 am. Or maybe it was the margaritas – hard to say! Blaine stepped up on day 2, bringing 13.15 lbs to the scale for 1st place on the day.
His consistency was matched by Greg who brought in another limit, this one weighing 12.06 lbs.
David snagged 3rd place with 9.25 lbs and the big fish of the day weighing 5.62 lbs.
Results for Day 2.
When the dust settled it was once again Greg winning the Edenton tournament, followed closely by Blaine. With 3 tournaments to go Greg leads the field, but every point will be needed to take home the championship!
