The bulk of the club made it out to Edenton to fish the MANY tributaries of the Albemarle Sound. Anglers are allowed to fish anywhere they want (Chowan, Pembroke, Perquimans, Little River, Pasquotank, or even Falls Lake) as long as they make it back to the ramp at route 17 by weigh in time. Many members and their guests went down a day or 2 early to prefish and take advantage of the opportunity to find something new.
The lead story was the heat. WOW it was hot. In many cases the water temperature was even higher than the air temp, with the highest verified water temp at 97.4 degrees. Crazier still was catching a fish in that hot water. Mix in the high daily temps in the mid 90s and you had to figure we were all in for a battle to catch anything. Well, most of us anyway….
The Saturday tournament saw a decent number of fish brought to the scales, though for most it was a letdown. Season points leader Greg continued his winning “weighs” bringing his usual limit to the scales, putting up an impressive 15.95 lbs for the win. On the back of his boat was his “Pops” who brought in his own limit weighing 12.42 lbs for 2nd place. There was a swamp donkey brought to the scales by David – a 6.55 lb giant that must have weighed double digits in the Spring. That’s a HAWG!
Sunday’s tournament spread the fish around to a few more anglers, with more bringing fish to the scales. Surprisingly the same number of fish were weighed each day. Greg brought in the only limit, smaller at 11.94 lbs for the win, including a big fish of 3.24 lbs. Six anglers were all one fish away from taking 2nd with weights being so close. William edged out that group with a modest 2 fish limit of 4.63 lbs.
